... a better solution ...

Hey my Lovelies!   Isn't this an inspiring edition of Photo Art Friday?  As of this moment (Saturday morning) we have hit the 50 participant mark for the first time!  Wooo hooo!

Sooooo ... allow me to tell you about what's been going on in my head for the last 36 hours:

Between all your supportive, appreciative comments and seeing several new people join our basic core of participants, I am noticing that I am feeling regret (and some guilt) about putting PAF on hiatus for the summer.

I have also received a few e-mails with suggestions on how I could keep the doors of our little virtual art gallery open.  I appreciate the encouragement to look for a way to do what I need to do personally without withdrawing and temporarily closing PAF.  It is really heartwarming to see how much many of you value this platform.

I've always maintained that things are rarely 'either/or' situations and that with a little creative problem solving we can make them into 'both/and' situations.  Maybe I should follow my own advice!  Duuuuuuh ....

Sooooo ... here's the 'both/and' (BOTH taking the time to attend to personal needs AND continuing this platform for turning photos into art) solution I have come up with:

If I don't put pressure on myself to comment on every image linked-up each week, I can happily continue to set a theme and provide the venue for the links to share our photo art images.   For the summer months, I will comment sporadically - concentrating on commenting to welcome and thank first-time participants.  I will still view all the images, I just won't spend all the time required to comment.  (Eeeek - I feel rather conflicted about this.  It seems so rude!  :)  But truthfully, as the number of participants grows, I will not be able to comment on every image ...

Soooooo - is a crazy lady allowed to change her mind and NOT put Photo Art Friday on the shelf for the summer, based on the above compromise solution?

Of course, events can intervene with the best laid plans, but for now I am cancelling my plan to put Photo Art Friday on hiatus.  Hoorah!!!!  We can keep on inspiring each other artistically every week!

My apologies for all the angst and confusion I may have created trying to attend to my personal needs in a rather uncreative, unimaginative way.

  1. Wow Bonnie, thank you for this. Having just found you I'm excited that you won't be taking the break after all, but do make sure that you're taking care of yourself too!

  2. Just the fact that you are willing to provide the forum for us all to share is wonderful in itself. I cannot comment on all entries, but I do view them all :). So, I say, do what you can and want to, when you can and want to. I myself, will keep checking in on you regardless of whether PAF is still ongoing ;).
    Stay inspired!

  3. Y E S !!!!!!! Don't worry at all about commenting on mine. And feel sure that everyone feels the same. Would love for PAF to keep going with or without the comments. Just take the time that you need though with less time investment in the link. Hugs from Texas

  4. Hee Hee!! I'm glad you decided to keep it going. I was so lost, I decided to start my own linkup on Fridays. LOL I'll probably still do that since I announced it today, but I will definitely be right here on Friday's as well.

One of the reasons I've hesitated starting my own was worrying if I could comment and get around to all the participants. But, I also know that there are some really BIG linkups out there and I know there's no way for those folks to get around to everyone, so commenting is not mandatory. I always appreciate the encouraging word when you stop by my blog, but I don't expect it either.

Keep on keeping on and give yourself permission to just do what you can. All your participants will be commenting on eachother's works as well, so no one should be left out in the cold :)

  5. Bonnie, your textures are great and your encouragement to our creativity is even better.
The fact you don't visit my blog or not to leave a message has no problem for me. I know that visit every blog is a huge manpower and that takes a lot of time, and we are not always in the mood to do so.
So we are going ahead, without fear of being happy.

  6. YAY!!!!

I'll miss your comments, they are always so thoughtful! But I'm really happy that the gallery will continue. You are one of the people who make me stretch myself, an I need that and am grateful.

Thanks--and a big thanks also to Deborah, for turning me onto Photo Art FRiday~

  7. Bonnie, I am so excited you have changed your mind...this makes me smile! I completely understand that you would not be able to visit all the posts - in fact, I'm incredibly impressed that you've been able to do that up till now. Life is very busy for all of us, and I simply feel grateful that you provide this weekly prompt. Thanks again for keeping it going, and I hope this summer brings you much relaxation and renewed health!

  8. Yay!
    Although I love comments...
I mostly enjoy having the challenge
    AND
being able to get what I do in front of like-minded people.
    So, this is great news....
but please take care of yourself FIRST.

  10. Bonnie, you are a darling and your health is so important, and I agree that commenting on all images is just impossible, so I do not think you are rude, we just love the challenges and textures. As a suggestion you could extend the time between postings, say every two weeks. Please do what is best for you.
    Cheers

  12. Taking the pressure of yourself and still allow us to link up, that's great news. I'm taking a break myself as I am going on holiday, but will be back to share as soon as I can.

  13. I'm so glad you've decided to keep PAF going throughout the summer as I really enjoy your challenges. It's very important for you to look after yourself too so perhaps just issue a challenge once a fortnight instead of every week.

  14. I'm so glad you decided to this, Bonnie! I've been on a bit of a [forced] hiatus myself and was looking forward to getting involved again :)

  15. Bonnie, I'm so glad you decided to keep the challenge going. But I hope you do take care of yourself and enjoy the summer without added pressure. I think another "both/and" solution would be to have the link up every other week, or even monthly, instead of weekly. That would free you up more for your personal matters, and maybe allow you to comment more if you feel bad about not being able to comment. I do enjoy your encouraging comments and I so appreciate the time you take to visit and comment. Whatever you decide, please take good care of yourself first! All the best, Loredana :)

  16. Sometimes we just have to re-evaluate our abilities and needs and adjust accordingly! I/We understand that you want to comment on each and every comment or image posted, but, in order to keep having a PDPA, I/we are more than willing to accept what you are able to give. Who could ask for anything more?! You do what you need. I like the idea of keeping PDPA active, just without as many replies as you have been accustomed to giving. That way, we both get our needs met. Isn't that better? I think so!
    Thanks!!

  17. Thank you EVERYONE. Your kindness is truly heart-warming, and I am taking each and every suggestion and good wish into that 'warmed' heart.

  18. Bonnie, of course you can't always take the time to comment on each and every entry. I don't even have time to do it though I like to. I like your plan. We can keep playing (that is, if I can get my computer to cooperate.....) and you can relax a little.

  19. Bonnie, first you need to take care of yourself. I too am glad that you'll be leaving PAF up through the summer. Maybe instead of commenting on all, you do as you said, comment on the newbies and maybe just feature a few for that week instead of a comment, sort of like Kim Klassen has started doing. It is impossible to comment on everyone's posts (I have tried myself).

You take care of you and we'll comment on each other's fabulous art work.

    Have a great week.

    Bright blessings,
    Kathy

  21. I was so surprised to read that you are reconsidering keeping PAF up during the summer. I just recently discovered your challenges and beautiful textures, and I was worried that you might lose interest. But do take care of yourself so this does not become a burden. I like the type of challenges you pose, and the encouragement of individual style and creativity. Commenting is not necessary in my opinion, but keeping you rested and energized is important!
    Thanks for creating this site.

  22. Hey Bonnie
I'm pretty new to these challenges, and I remember I was so excited when I found the Photo Art Friday ...
The most important thing is that you take care of yourself, and if not write comments will be able to give you the energy to keep the wheels in motion, it is fantastic, but only you can make the decision that is best for you!
    Take care:)
